National Geographic, Doomsday Preppers

Feb 7th 9pm Eastern the new National Geographic, Doomsady Prepper series begins.
I'm looking forward to it and maybe there will be some more ideas we can use from these folks.

Oh man....one of the shows that I miss not having television; National Geographic!

No TV? Come to think about it you've never said anything about one! Well good for you, most all programming is junk anyway except the History Channel, Discovery and National Geographic. In a couple months you can watch online anyway.

Did you get your oven fixed or is it time for a wood cook stove? :-)

Thanks for the heads-up. I marked it on the calendar. While I'm far from being a prepper, I do find the mind-set fascinating and can always learn something from them.

Tami.
You're welcome and you're right, we can always learn someting and maybe the right way to do it that fits your personal needs and budget.
Prepping isn't just for living through disasters but actually teaches how to live frugal and save money using bulk dry food stocks for everyday meals that are free from processing chemicals of which we all consume to much of today.

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for posting this link! While we do have a t.v. for watching movies, we haven't had reception (cable or satellite) for programing since we moved out to the foothills nearly 6 years ago. Will have to watch this once it's available on the web.

Oh, and I agree with your comment that prepping is so much more than being able to live through disasters! We're certainly no where ready for a disaster, but we're slowly (s-l-o-w-l-y) weaning ourselves from dependency to a more frugal, healthy, and self-reliant life style.

Thanks again for sharing such good info with us, Mike!

Hi Lisa,
With your TV do you receive regular digital broadcast stations for local news etc or are you to far out for that also? However, it is good thing to live without as there is so much a family can do besides vegetate.

You are right about living better. There are many benefits to prepping besides having a store of food. Living better with quality home made foods is just one of them. Getting out of town and parting ways with local government mandates like cable, water, sewer, garbage and a bunch of new fees (taxes) that escalate every year plus the new ones they come up with every year trying to pay for bloated budgets for purely wasteful projects. Here we have an extra sales tax of 1% to pay for roads that didn’t need to be paved and city mandated beautification projects, something else not needed, of which all have failed that the tax payers get stuck paying the freight on for decades.

You are fortunate to have such a great family and life. Keep it up!

Mike,

Yes, that far out. We'd need either an antenna or a satellite dish to receive broadcast television. With an antenna we could get the local channels (and we've talked about doing that, but the internet makes it unnecessary). Because we're somewhat near a state prison, we do have dsl for our internet connection (even though our son says it woefully slow). Works for us.

I just checked out the link for Doomsday Preppers and was able to watch short previews for the different episodes. I'm hoping each episode will be available after it airs. I'm really hoping they do an episode about bugging out of a large city since I have family in the Seattle area that plan to head this way when/if they need to.

Take care,

Lisa
