Just a reminder, the 2019 Hurricane season is coming, get prepared now!
Check
your stock of:
- Drinking water.
- Can supermarket foods.
- Paper plates, cups and
silverware.
- Trash Bags
- Propane for the camp stove.
- T-Paper
- Prescriptions
- Eye glasses/contacts extra
pair
- Batteries for flashlights and
radios with NOAA weather bands and a recharger for all of them. In a pinch
you can use the vehicles 12v power port outlets.
- A way to recharge your cell
phones and computer when the grid goes down.
- City protocol today is to
turn-off the probable storm landfall areas electric power and water before
the storm arrives.
- Old gasoline stored in
5-gallon gas cans for the generator, if it is two or more years old, make use of it and burn it in your vehicles and replace it with fresh stabilized gas. Change the oil and test run it.
- If the storm is going to be a
direct hit, have a bug out location you want to go to already planned.
Plus dozens of other items you need to survive
on your own.
Good advice.
ReplyDeleteI find it's always better to prepare weeks early when there's no stress like there is when the storm is only hours away. This year they are forecasting 13 storms and 7 hurricanes, however NOAA has yet to publish their forecast.
DeleteThe last thing you want to be doing when a big storm is headed your way is to be fighting with people at the shops buying stuff you NEED for the disaster that you could have bought yonks ago.
ReplyDeleteYears ago a big flood was headed our way. My household was stocked up (I am a prepper after all), but I thought I'd shoot down and buy some comfort food and some booze. Wowsers, people were going crazy, not looting crazy but crazy. I took one look at that hot mess and turned around and went home. I didn't need that needless drama in my life.
If Disaster hit RIGHT THIS VERY MINUTE and my house wasn't utterly destroyed. Well, my household is eating for about a year. Not great food, but we're not eating the dog either (I'm in the middle of re-reading the excellent book "One Second After")
Dingo, I’m planning to do an article about eating your basic Prepper hard core dry foods such as wheat, beans, rice and pasta. The foods most Preppers buy and stock thinking that’s all they need but have never thought about just what kind of food/meals you will have to eat. (it will make eating your dog a real possibility).
Delete“One Second After”, is the best book I have ever found that realistically covers what small town life will be like after a major disaster strikes leaving most of the country without utilities like electricity, water, sewer and fuel. They should make a movie using the book as a script, it would be frightening for most.
Mike - Almost serendipitous this article appeared on Zero Hedge https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-04-26/widespread-blackouts-strike-fort-bragg-during-cyber-attack-drill
DeleteI look forward to reading your articles on how to create meals using Prepper staples. I cook my wheat berries like rice. It turns out chewy but edible. I use soy sauce for flavour. Soy sauce doesn't have an expiry date so it fits in well.
I made the Bannock bread as per your recipe on the sidebar. Only I used Baking soda instead of Baking Powder. I learned they're not interchangeable. My version kinda turned out. I mean, it was edible, and if it were day 35 of 1 second after you'd be thankful, but not on day 2.
I talked with my wife about day 35. I wondered if it'd really be that crazy. But to be fair, we're stocked up. So we're not wondering about how we're cleaning ourselves after going to the loo (a years worth FTW), nor am I stretching out my razor or toothpaste. Can you imagine running out of loo paper? LOL - stock up now & save embarrassment.
"One Second After" - the first time I read that I couldn't put it down. I read it in one go. Fortunately it was Christmas time and I was on holidays. It scared me so much I raced out and bought wheat berries the next day and I sent an email to Lord Bison to ensure I wasn't buying the wrong thing because .... well what if 1 second after was TODAY?
Dingo, Lord Bison is my favorite writer, I don’t know how he pumps out so many articles but hope he keeps it up. Here’s a couple of important links to look at concerning wheat grains and AP Flour storage.

In my side bar: Food Storage Grains and Flour several interesting posts.

If One Second After were today? What a mess it would be. People including Preppers are not mentally ready for it.
Great info, not only for your storm season, but the thunderstorms and etc here up north too.
ReplyDeletethanks for the info
